Authenticity and happiness
Aug 19, 2024Authenticity brings happiness1. People who live life aligned with their values tend to have greater levels of life satisfaction as well as a greater sense of wellbeing.
There are many ways that authenticity brings happiness. For one, authentic people express themselves freely, without limiting themselves in fear of judgment. Self-expression is a fundamental psychological need, and fulfilling it leads to a greater sense of wellbeing.
Second, aligning one’s actions with their core values increases a sense of purpose and fulfilment in life, as well as reduces internal conflict. It also strengthens one’s identity and self-respect, and increases resiliency and the ability to cope.
Lastly, authentic people tend to form deeper, more meaningful relationships, also bringing a greater sense of wellbeing and happiness.
With all these things considered, it’s no wonder authentic people tend to be happier. Authenticity is a thing worth pursuing, even if it might feel difficult or scary if you are not used to it. Living true to yourself frees you from too much overthinking and internal conflict, and brings a sense of purpose and freedom in expressing yourself, as well as the ability to connect with others in a more meaningful way.
